Miss. authors on BLM movement

The Martha’s Vineyard (Mass.) Author Series will present The Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement and the Fight for Radical Justice event on Aug. 13 via the Crowdcast Platform. The event features Oxford, Miss., writers Barbara Phillips and Kiese Laymon, plus David Blight and Kenneth Mack, as they discuss the historical context surrounding the movement. The BLM movement has been fueled by the country’s history toward African-Americans, and powered by social media. The authors plan to discuss the background/goals of the movement, how the country reckons with its history, and exploring solutions. The BLM movement and the Fight for Radical Justice will be the last event of the summer series. Barbara Y. Phillips is a social justice activist, scholar and writer. Currently an Adjunct Professor, she was an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law and a civil rights litigator. Kiese Laymon is a southern writer, born and raised in Jackson, Miss. Laymon is the Ottilie Schillig Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Mississippi.
