MS projects in SAC-OK'd water bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) voted with the Senate Appropriations Committee (SAC) on July 21 to advance an FY 2024 appropriations bill that includes $185.7M for specifically authorized U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in Mississippi

The committee voted 29-0 to advance the FY-24 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, which funds the Army Corps, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Department of Energy defense and non-defense programs, as well as independent agencies like the Delta Regional Authority and Appalachian Regional Commission. 

The measure now goes to the full Senate for vote. 

Among items of interest to Mississippi: 

•  $43.7M to continue construction improvements on major flood control projects - Delta Headwaters, Yazoo Backwater and Upper Yazoo rivers.

•  $21.3M for dredging activities at Mississippi ports at Gulfport, Pascagoula, Vicksburg, Greenville and Rosedale harbors. 

 $10M for Meridian and $9.2M million for the Mississippi 592 Program for multiple cities for environmental infrastructure upgrades.

•  $200M for the Appalachian Regional Commission. (Hyde-Smith 07/21/23)
