MS 'Blue' tech lessons for Africa

GULFPORT, Miss. - Mississippi’s Blue Economy lessons are being shared with young leaders from half a world away.

Professionals with the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) gathered here at the Gulf & Ship Island Building to meet with experts from USM and Gulf Blue.

“All of them came here looking for something that they could take back and immediately impact their communities,” said Edith Davidson, Leadership Director and Co-Academic Manager.

YALI, an initiative that brought about 5,800 young leaders here from every country in sub-Saharan Africa for academic and leadership training. The group visited Gulfport on July 21.

“What I’ve experienced is the technology being used down here,” said Mathias Pwol, a farmer from Nigeria. “You guys are way good in technology.”

Pwol believes the technology can help his farm and Africa on a larger scale, such as aiding in feeding the world. (WLOX 07/21/23) African entrepreneurs gather in Gulfport for academic, leadership training (wlox.com)
