CG boss, elevator news @ Austal

MOBILE, Ala. - Admiral Linda Fagan, new Coast Guard Commandant, was in the Port City at Austal USA's shipyard and manufacturing facilities to discuss the company’s contract for the CG’s Heritage-class Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC)

Austal USA's high-tech steel shipbuilding production line, which has resulted in the capability to manufacture increasingly more complex ships, sits within a 117,000 square foot steel panel line, where OPC construction is to begin in mid-2024.

“We are excited about our growing partnership with the Coast Guard as we move into production of the OPC," stated Austal USA President Rusty Murdaugh. 

Austal USA has delivered 30 battle force ships to the Navy since 2009 and has eight ships from five different programs currently under construction. (Austal USA 06/22/23) 


Austal to construct elevators for two CVNs

MOBILE, Ala. - Austal USA started construction on the aluminum aircraft elevators for two Ford-class aircraft carriers - Enterprise (CVN 80) and Doris Miller (CVN 81) - currently under construction at HII’s Newport News (Va.) Shipbuilding.

“This opportunity to demonstrate our advanced manufacturing capabilities to support a program critical to our Nation’s defense is welcomed by our talented workforce,” commented Austal USA Vice President of New Construction Programs Dave Growden.

The aircraft elevators are scheduled to be completed in November 2024 and March 2025, respectively.
