Top 5 airports for firearm detections

Passengers at Nashville International Airport (BNA) were preparing for pre-flight procedures - removing shoes and placing items in bins. No one seem to notice airport police escorting a man away. He had been caught with a semi-automatic pistol in his carry-on - with 14 rounds of ammunition and one in the chamber. "You don't want people to become concerned," Stephen Wood, TSA Federal Security Director for Tennessee, told USA TODAY, "because we've got the situation under control." The Nashville airport has had plenty of chances to practice the art of subtlety. BNA is among the Top 5 airports for the detection of firearms in 2022. TSA officers at Tennessee airports detected 366 firearms in carry-ons in 2022, nearly a 30% increase from 2021, according to a news releaseBNA ranked No. 4 in TSA checkpoint firearm detections - one firearm for every 37,646 travelers screened, more than three times the national rate. Across the nation, TSA found 6,542 firearms at airport security checkpoints. The five top airports for TSA checkpoint firearm detections in 2022:  

* Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL):  448.

* Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW): 385.

* Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH): 298.

* Nashville International Airport (BNA): 213.
