NCBC center named for KIA chief

GULFPORT, Miss. - Naval Construction Battalion Center's Fitness Center has a new name. Nearly 11 years after Builder Chief Raymond J. Border was killed while deployed from Gulfport in the line of duty, the center was named for him in a ceremony Feb. 11 outside the center. Border’s family was in the front row. “He loved this base and he was in here working out all the time - really into physical fitness,” his father Craig A. Border told WLOX. “And for them to name this after him, it’s just really hard to have any words to say other than amazing.” But it was what he did for others that defined him, according to brother-in-law Charles Weaver, who served with him. Border was killed in action (KIA) by an IED in Oct.be 20011, while serving in Afghanistan.
