Lanane to command TAW-1

Capt. Robert T. Lanane II became commodore of Training Air Wing 1 at NAS Meridian, Miss., on Aug. 13 during a change of command ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, outgoing commodore Capt. Tracey J. Gendreau, retired from naval service. Lanane is a native of Gettysburg, Pa., and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He received his commission through Officer Candidate School in 1999 and earned his Wings of Gold in 2001 at Naval Air Station (NAS) Meridian, Miss. As squadron commander of VFA-136, he led the “Knighthawks” during its 2015 combat deployment aboard aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. The Commander's specific mission is to supervise, coordinate, and administer the student pilot academic and flight-training program - training international military aviators from such nations as France, Italy, and Spain.
