NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued eight boaters Aug. 4 on Lake Pontchartrain.
The CG received a report from New Orleans 911 dispatch of a 35-foot sailing vessel adrift with three persons aboard and five persons in the water around 8:45 p.m.
Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and coordinated the launches of a New Orleans-based 29-foot Response Boat-Small (RB-S) boat crew and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew.
The RB-S boat crew arrived and embarked the three persons onto the craft. The CG received a report that a good Samaritan vessel had rescued the five other people in the water.
The RB-S boat crew then placed the sailing vessel into a side tow and brought it to the West End boat launch and transferred the boaters to awaiting emergency medical personnel. No injuries were reported. (Coast Guard 08/05/23)
