The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced April 6 that more than $20B will be distributed to states for infrastructure projects. Mississippi is expected to receive $42.07M; Alabama $76,38M; Louisiana $91.37M. Last fall, President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which designated $1T to be given to projects improving water, recycling, electric and low-emission buses, tribal communities, and pollution prevention. Funds for Mississippi are to be used for improvement of state roads, bridges, transit systems, and more. FTA also announced additional resources that will be issued for the betterment of public transportation: $6.9B for the Urbanized Area Formula Program; $4.1B for the State of Good Repair Formula Program; $893M for Rural Area Formula grants; $422M for the Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program; $45M to support to transit programs run by tribal governments; and $49M for State Safety Oversight.
