Colorado State University's Tropical Weather & Climate Research team is projecting a busy 2022 hurricane season with the possibility of 19 named storms including nine hurricanes. Four of those storms could become major hurricanes. There were 14 named storms on average every year between 1991-2020. The meteorologists say there is at least a 71 percent probability for at least one major storm to make landfall on the U.S. coastline. The area between Brownsville, Texas, and Florida Panhandle has about a 46 percent probability of seeing at least one major storm. The Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1 to Nov. 30.
