Camp Shelby, near Hattiesburg, will serve as a staging area for FEMA in preparation to deliver disaster relief efforts to Louisiana. The Mississippi National Guard at Camp Shelby’s Joint Forces Training Center are supporting the combined effort. FEMA Director Deanne Criswell joined Gov. Tate Reeves in a press conference to highlight multiple resources posturing and deploying in support of those citizens. The MNG is also providing lodging to Georgia National Guardsmen as they forward deploy to Louisiana. Additionally, about 250 MNG personnel are deploying for the emergency response mission. MNG soldiers from the 112th Military Police Battalion and the 223rd Engineer Battalion will provide emergency debris removal and logistical distribution of food and water.
