The U.S. House of Representatives’ Armed Services Committee (HASC) adopted an amendment Sept. 1 authorizing four more combat ships for the Navy, and an increase by $23.9B to the total Defense Department FY-22 budget. The amendment was authored by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.). It authorizes funding for a third Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, one America-class amphibious assault ship, one Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) ship, and another T-AO-205 John Lewis-class fleet oiler. Under the amendment, HASC would authorize $1.53B for the third destroyer, $1.2B for the amphibious warship, $270M for the EPF, and $668.2M for the second oiler.
