Analyst: Brink of new 'super cycle'

Goldman Sachs analyst Peter Oppenheimer says the global economy is on the brink of a new "super cycle" driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and decarbonization, which marks a departure from the previous super cycle of the 1980s.

Interest rates aren't falling aggressively, and geopolitical risks are increasing. The AI boom, led by triple-digit gains in the stock prices of some tech companies, is expected to continue to influence markets as the technology becomes more widespread.

He argues tech firms in the lead of the AI boom are relatively cheap compared to past tech bubbles and believes the trend will have a significant impact on economic growth in the years ahead.

On decarbonization, he notes that as global physical demands change, economies are being pushed to modernize. This shift towards decarbonization is expected to drive economic growth.

Overall, his analysis suggests that the factors that fueled the previous super cycle are no longer as influential. The new drivers have the potential to spur a period of significant expansion.
