MSU earns carbon removal award

STARKVILLE, Miss.- Mississippi State University is one of only 23 worldwide named a winner in an international carbon removal student contest supported by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s foundation. The only honoree in the entire Southeast region, MSU’s Energy Club will use the $250,000 award to further their “BECReative Energy” concept in the $100M XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition that culminates in 2024. The MSU team’s concept focuses on biomass gasification, a process that converts biomass sources to syngas. The Bagley College of Engineering student organization, made up of 20+ students, received the Musk Foundation funding from the non-profit XPRIZE, a global implementer of innovative competition models to solve the world’s greatest challenges.
