Dickens of a Christmas in Hernando

The upcoming weekend of Nov. 12.-14, visitors from across the region will be heading to the north Mississippi city of Hernando's third annual 'Dickens of a Christmas'  event that turns back the clock to the Victorian era - a timeline in which the city was founded in 1837. Hernando's award-winning event will transform the historic Square area back to a time when Charles Dickens wrote about “A Christmas Carol.”  Activities begin with the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce hosting a Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday at 6 p.m., which will be followed by Family Movie Night with Disney's movie version of “A Christmas Carol. Saturday, the city will transform into a Victorian-age Christmas, at the Farmers Market, and Chamber’s Christmas Open House. The Christmas Open House for downtown retailers will continue through Sunday. In the three years, Dickens of a Christmas has gained statewide attention. It was named Best Overall at the Mississippi Municipal League’s 90th Annual Conference in the summer. Data from last year found that there were people from 79 different ZIP codes that attended, and business increased by 77 percent in sales.
