VR developed for robotic surgery

KEESLER AFB, Miss. - In March a year ago, Keesler was faced with new restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With a vital role in training, the 81st Surgical Operations Squadron (SOS) pushed for a new way to safely train on robotic surgery. The medical squadron reached out to its robotic partner-company, Immersive Health Technologies. They worked together to implement virtual reality (VR) equipment and courses. This technology allows students to learn at their convenience and environment increasing COVID safety for students and patients, while creating an interactive simulated operating room. The training consists of 11 online modules and seven VR scenarios without affecting patient health. “I feel this training boosted our confidence using the robot," said Airman 1st Class Yadira Gibson, 81st robotics technician. "while increasing the team’s ability to problem solve quickly.” (Source: Keesler AFB 10/07/21) Keesler leverages virtual reality to train robotic surgery > Keesler Air Force Base > Article Display (af.mil)
