Elise Varner Winter, the widow of former Mississippi Gov. William Winter, died July 17 in Jackson at the age of 95. Born May 9, 1926, Elise Winter was the daughter of Mamie and William Elliot (John) Varner of Senatobia, Miss. Her father was the town pharmacist and longtime mayor. Mrs. Winter met her soon-to-be husband as a junior at the University of Mississippi.
