MSU grad earns DoD scholarship

STARKVILLE, Miss.- A recent graduate of the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University, currently working at the university’s Geosystems Research Institute, is receiving a Department of Defense Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation Scholarship. Meilum Zhou graduated in 2020 with a degree in computer engineering. His undergraduate research at GRI has a special focus on machine learning and remote sensing. Zhou, a native of Hattiesburg and a graduate from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus, plans to use the SMART Scholarship to pursue his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Florida. The SMART scholarship is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. students to gain technical skills in critical science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields and support the DoD’s national security mission.
