James Olson has been named executive director of LSU’s Stephenson National Center for Security Research and Training in Baton Rouge. Olson spent 24 years in the Navy, where he worked on submarine, aviation and space programs. He retired in 2006 with the rank of captain. Most recently he was executive director of the Center for National Security Initiatives at the University of Colorado. He has a bachelor's in physics from the University of North Texas and dual master's degrees in meteorology and physical oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School. The Stephenson National Center for Security Research and Training (SNCSRT) is currently a leader in providing training on anti-terrorism and counter-terrorism techniques, safety and security and emergency preparedness projects initiated by state and federal law enforcement agencies.
