WH nominates Kendall for SECAF

WASHINGTON - The White House officially nominated Frank Kendall on April 27 to serve as Secretary of the Air Force, and Gina Ortiz Jones for undersecretary of the Air Force. Kendall, who served in the Army and is a human rights attorney, is best known as the Pentagon’s top acquisition official during the Obama administration (2012-16). Although Kendall served in the Army, most of his work centered on Air Force and aerospace programs. Jones, who served in the AF from 2003-06 as an intelligence officer, deployed to Iraq. In 2008, she moved to the Defense Intelligence Agency. Jones ran for Congress in 2018 and 2020 as the Democrat nominee for Texas’ 23rd congressional district, but lost to Republican contenders twice. A Filipino American, Jones has in the past talked about the challenges of being gay while serving under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” military policy. If confirmed, she would become the first woman of color to become the undersecretary of the Air Force.
