Some Saudi students to be expelled

WASHINGTON - More than a dozen Saudi servicemen, training at military bases in the United States, will be expelled from the country following a Defense Department review that was ordered after a Dec. 6 deadly shooting by a Saudi Air Force officer at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., CNN reported Jan. 11. The Saudi personnel being expelled are not accused of aiding the Saudi officer who killed three U.S. sailors and wounded eight at NASP, CNN reported using two unnamed sources, but some are said to have connections to extremist movements, according to a person familiar with the situation, and a number accused of possessing child pornography. DoD, the Justice Department, FBI and Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C., did not immediately respond to requests for comment. On Dec. 10, DoD announced a halt to operational training for all Saudi military personnel in the U.S. On Dec. 19, DoD announced that it found no threat in its review of about 850 Saudi military students studying in the United States. The FBI has said the Saudi officer acted alone before being fatally shot by an Escambia County deputy sheriff.
