DOT rejects Jackson airport

Direct flights to Florida from Jackson-Municipal Airport took a nose dive Sept. 30. The U.S. Department of Transportation rejected its application for a Small Community Air Service Grant. The application was to be used to restore a “fare-reasonable” airline to replace the departed Southwest Airlines’ Orlando direct-to-Orlando flights. Other airport carriers have added flights to connecting flights via Atlanta and Houston. Allegiant Airlines flies to Sanford, Fla., in the Orlando area.
