Keesler Air Force Base’s 81st Medical Group has a new commander. Colonel (Dr.) Thomas Harrell assumed command of the base hospital following a change of command March 31. Harrell comes to KAFB from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, where he commanded the Defense Department/Veterans Affairs Joint Venture Hospital. He also served as the Alaskan Command command surgeon. Outgoing commander Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Kory Cornum has been reassigned to Scott AFB, Ill., as Air Mobility Command command surgeon. (Gulf Coast Note: Harrell becomes the federal coordinator for the Gulf Coast National Disaster Medical System. He earned a master’s degree in strategic study and served as class president of the Air War College at Maxwell AFB, Ala., before going to Alaska.)
