U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona named 325 schools across America as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021. Four of those schools were in Mississippi: Della Davidson Elementary in Oxford; Woolmarket Elementary School, Harrison County School District; Brandon Elementary School, Rankin County School District; and East Hancock Elementary School, Hancock County School District. "It is a huge honor. It recognizes the efforts and hard work of the staff, the parents and the community to create a safe and welcoming environment for learning, Oxford Superintendent Bradley Roberson told the Daily Journal. Recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
