MS overtakes AL in 2020 Census

Over 88 percent of housing units have been accounted for in the 2020 Census as of Sept. 8 with 22.7 percent counted by census takers and other field data collection operations, and 65.5 percent of housing units responding online, by phone or mail. The Census Bureau releases housing unit completion rates for all 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In addition, the Census Bureau releases the completion rates for the Nonresponse Follow-up operation by area census office. In Sept. 8’s report for the four Gulf Coast regional states, Florida reported 85.1% (#43 overall); Louisiana 82.7% (#48); Mississippi, which overtook neighboring Alabama, reported 82.5% (#49) and Alabama 81.5% (#52). (Source: Census Bureau 09/08/20) The Census Bureau has indicated it will close census taking on Sept. 30, however, some congressional reps are requesting it to continue longer. https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2020/88-percent-of-households-counted.html?utm_campaign=20200908msc20s2ccnwsrs&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
