JACKSON, Miss. - Col. John B. Carter will become the new commander of the Mississippi State Guard (MSG) on April 24 in a ceremony at the Camp Shelby Joint Training Center, south of Hattiesburg. Carter will assume command from Brig. Gen. Douglas M. Hayhurst, who has been the commander since August 2016. Carter has served as the chief of staff of the MSG since January 2019.
