Send in Marines for holiday cheer

The holiday spirit in New Orleans gets a lift Dec. 9 at the Airline Drive's Jefferson Performing Arts Center for a mixture of music and merriment.

The Jefferson Performing Arts Society event also kicks off a multi-week drive for local children in need of coats, food and toys.

Santa will make an appearance around 6 p.m., so "you better watch out …" and will follow up with a tree-lighting ceremony.

The Marine Forces Reserve Band will perform a holiday concert at 7 p.m. The musical military ensemble will perform a mix of Christmas classics and a few military melodies.

The donation drive will help several local organizations aid those in need. Coats are being requested for children at Woodmere Elementary School in Harvey; non-perishable food items will go to the East Jefferson High School food pantry for students with family food insecurities and toys will be channeled to the Marine's support of Toys for Tots.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit jpas.org. (NOLA.com 12/04/23) JPAS kicks off drive for toys, food and coats in Metairie | Jefferson Parish | nola.com
