Holiday airfare prices going up

Commercial airfare prices rose 42.9 since the end of September 2021 - fastest rate on record, according to Labor Department data. As demand for air travel rebounded to pre-pandemic levels this summer, airlines cut down on their flights to reduce delays/cancellations due to a shortage of workers and rising fuel costs. The limited number of seats drove up prices. The consumer price index (CPI) found overall prices rose 8.2% percent over the past 12 months and 0.4% in September. Airfares have risen faster than other goods/services due in part to low when travelers were concerned about the pandemic. Ticket prices will remain high as the holidays approach. Christmas airfares are up 55% from 2021 and 19% than in 2019 prices, according to the travel booking app Hopper. (The Hill 10/13/22) Airfares rose record 43 percent annually: CPI | The Hill
