CoE shuts down MS rec areas

VICKSBURG, Miss. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) Vicksburg District has closed multiple boat ramps and recreation areas at Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada Lakes for the season. Lake levels are lowered beginning in late summer to provide storage for rainfall in the spring.  As lake levels drop, some ramps will become unusable. At Arkabutla Lake, Highway 51 Landing and Coldwater Point ramps are unusable for boat launching. At Sardis, most upper lake ramps are usable. Sleepy Bend Campground has closed. Enid Lake has closed all swim areas. Bynum boat ramp is unusable, and Water Valley Landing was expected to close last weekend. Grenada Lake has closed Willow Run, Blue Hole and Old Fort recreation areas. The four reservoirs are used to hold runoff, or excess rainwater, as a flood-prevention measure.
