NHC: H'cane Delta costs $2.9B

NEW ORLEANS – Cat 2 Hurricane Delta, which made landfall in SW Louisiana on Oct. 9, caused $2.9B in the United States and six deaths in the U.S. and Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center. Two drown in rip currents near Destin, Fla. The report released Tuesday details the hurricane's origins, trajectory and things such as wind speed and storm surge when it made landfall in SW Louisiana. The hurricane brought 100 mph winds and produced a storm surge up to nine feet in some areas east of landfall near Creole, La., the NHC report said. Delta produced huge rain totals in some areas particularly between Lake Charles and Alexandria. Nearly 18 inches of rain fell NE of Lake Charles. The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season set multiple records while producing a record 30 named storms.
