MS infrastructure report card: D+

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi schools may be closed due to the coronavirus, but the State of Mississippi got a D+ on its infrastructure systems report card on April 14 from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ research of 12 categories including, aviation, bridges, dams, drinking water, energy, inland waterways, levees, ports, rail, roads, solid waste, and wastewater. Two key grades were roads and bridges – both got a D-. ASCE said a great deal of the state’s infrastructure was aging and outdated, which lead to the grade. It’s going to take increased awareness of the issues, and more funding, to fix the problems, according to Jacob Forrester, Infrastructure Report Card Chairman.
