Vet earns Congressional Gold Medal

Mississippi veteran Vonzia J. Rigsby, 98, became a Marine when blacks and whites were segregated in the early-to-mid years of the 1940s.He was among many black Marines who served in WWII as Montford Point (Miss.) Marines. His service to his country was recognized Oct. 22 with a presentation of the Congressional Gold Medal at Naval Air Station Meridian.
